The BackScratchr Widget is a free online advertising opportunity for your business, website or blog. What’s a widget? In short, a widget is an embeddable chunk of code that puts a small applet or program on your website. Think of our widget as one of those placemats at a restaurant full of advertisements for other small businesses. However, instead of a handful of ads, our digital “placemat” is endless.
HOW DOES IT WORK?
When you sign up your website and put our small widget (300 x 250px) on your homepage, your information is added to our network of websites. That list of websites randomly scrolls on our widget. When people visit your website and view our widget, they are exposed to the network. Meanwhile, all the other websites are displaying the widget and exposing thousands of people to YOUR website. You’re scratching their backs, and they’re scratching yours!
WHO CAN SIGN UP?
Anyone with a website and a product to promote can benefit from using BackScratchr. It’s perfect for small businesses, bloggers, or musicians. The only requirement is that you own and control a website where you can embed the widget so it’s fully visible to your website visitors.
WHAT ABOUT SPAM?
Spamming is impossible on BackScratchr, as we view and approve all the websites that sign up. Only sites that are family safe will be approved.
HOW DO I GET STARTED?
1. Before you do anything, you have to embed the widget! You can do this by clicking on the “asterisk” logo on the bottom right of the widget. From there you’ll get a pop up menu that you can use to embed the widget on your website or social networking profile.
2. Sign up your website using the form to the right. You’ll be asked to give us information about yourself and your website. Make sure you have a short description of your business (115 characters max) and a small logo (125 x 125 px). This information will be used as your listing on the widget and your profile on our website.
3. Once we verify that you’ve added the widget to your website, we’ll add your website to the network within 24 hours. We will then send you a link to your website’s profile on Backscratchr.com to confirm your information is on the widget.
4. If at any point you want to remove the widget from your website and unsubscribe from our email list, just remove the code from your site and send an email to unsubscribe@backscratchr.com.
